History of the Drink
The margarita’s origins trace back to the 1930s or 1940s, with several bartenders claiming to have invented it. Most stories point to northern Mexico, where tequila and lime were always popular. The combination of tequila, triple sec, and lime juice quickly became a hit along the U.S.–Mexico border.
Over time, bartenders began experimenting with frozen versions, and the lime margarita became the foundation for hundreds of flavored varieties. Today, it remains the most iconic cocktail in America — a symbol of summer gatherings and celebration.
Margarita Machine Recipe
- 1 bottle (½ gal) – Margarita Man® Margarita concentrate
- 3.25 gal – water
- 2-3 L – tequila
- (may use 2 L for drinks with less kick, or up to 3.5 L for stronger drinks)
- ½ L – triple sec
- combine all ingredients in a 5-gallon mixing container, stir or shake vigorously, and carefully pour into a margarita or slush machine
- Makes 70-80 8-ounce drinks with alcohol mixed in, or 60 non-alcoholic slushies
Pro Tip: Add a splash of Grand Marnier on top of your frozen margarita after dispensing for a delicious “Cadillac” margarita
Blender Recipe
- 4 oz – Margarita Man® Margarita concentrate
- 4 cups – Ice
- 4 oz – Tequila
- 1 oz – Triple Sec or other orange liqueur
- combine all ingredients in a blender and frappé!
- Makes four (4) 8-ounce drinks with alcohol mixed in
