The Piña Colada is one of those iconic drinks that instantly transports you to a beach chair under a palm tree. Its name means “strained pineapple” in Spanish, a fitting description for its sweet tropical foundation of pineapple juice, coconut cream, and rum.
While several bartenders from Puerto Rico claim to have invented the cocktail, the most widely accepted story credits Ramón “Monchito” Marrero, a bartender at the Caribe Hilton in San Juan. In 1954, Monchito blended the very first Piña Colada using local ingredients to create a drink that would capture the essence of the island—and he succeeded. The cocktail quickly became a favorite of tourists and locals alike and was later declared Puerto Rico’s official national drink in 1978.
In Frisco, the Piña Colada isn’t just for beach bars. It’s become a hit at birthday parties, weddings, backyard cookouts, and even Sunday brunches. We’ve seen Piña Coladas served poolside in Phillips Creek Ranch, passed around at block parties in Frisco Lakes, and enjoyed at festivals in Downtown Frisco Square.
At Margaritas Express, we don’t make the mix, but we’ve sourced one of the best around—creamy, rich, and perfectly balanced to serve with or without alcohol. It's smooth enough for kids to enjoy as a mocktail and bold enough for adults to spike with rum or vodka.
Once you try this Piña Colada Mix, it’ll be a must-have for every Texas celebration.
